Fifteen UK faculty members will teach students at Shanghai University in China for a week this summer through the UK Confucius Institute’s “UK Faculty China Short-Term Teaching Program,” during the week of June 16-20.
The 3rd Anniversary Celebration Concert will spotlight string music, the pipa, martial arts and other musical talents from Shanghai. The free concert will begin at 7 p.m. Thursday, at the Singletary Center.
As the conduit to UK’s China initiatives, the UK Confucius Institute works to establish college-wide and campus-wide collaborations with Chinese universities.
The conference aimed to promote an interdisciplinary and cross-cultural dialogue about Asia’s past and present. The UK graduate students presented papers that explored specific interrelationships between Asia and the United States.

Since 2010, the Chinese Studies program at UK has taken groups of students to Shanghai University in the summer for a 6-credit Conversational Chinese course. Liang Luo is a professor of Chinese culture and language, and has accompanied two of these groups to Shanghai.
At the end of March 2012, the American Studies Center at Shanghai University hosted a symposium on Urbanization in the American South.
