Publishing audio and video to support and feature academic content is fairly commonplace in universities and colleges these days, but higher learning institutions haven’t always shared so freely.
While China is famous for its booming metropolises of Shanghai and Beijing, many people still live in rural communities. A&S Hive members Dana Rogers and Cheyenne Hohman traveled to Yiwen Chen's hometown in Yongja, China.
Driving was one of the most chaotic experiences in China. In this video we are driving to the Waterfall Temple, where we will play Mahjong, an ancient Chinese game played with cards or tiles. Mahjong is a game of skill, strategy, and a certain degree of chance. A&S Hive member Yiwen Chen and her friends taught us how to play the game of Mahjong in a cave which is behind a waterfall.

A&S Hive members Cheyenne Hohman and Dana Rogers visited Yiwen Chen's home in Yongja, Wenzhou. Wenzhou was a prosperous foreign treaty port, which remains well-preserved today. It is situated in a mountainous region and, as a result, has been isolated for most of its history from the rest of the country, making the local culture and language very distinct not only from the rest of China but from neighboring areas as well. The Hive is the College of Arts & Sciences' newly unified team of both creative and technical services. This provides A&S with support for web and print media projects, public relations, and computing and informational services. This interview is with Cheyenne Hohman, the Audio Production and Digital Media Coordinator for A&S within the Hive.
Last week the creative content/social media functional team of Hive, presented work-flow to other Hive team members. The podcasters created a demo interview featuring Christain Ecker called “On the Spot.” The social media writers showed their interactive pages created through facebook, twitter etc. connected to the A&S page. And to show what I do in terms of photography here at A&S, I took portraits of all Hive team members at the meeting in yearbook style! Brian and I provided everyone with funky clothes from our closets and everyone had a lot of fun, because the creative content/social media team has a lot of fun doing what they do.
I have chosen the best dressed out of our portraits at the meeting, your prize is pride. Here you go…
1. Brian Connors Manke
